Canadian Dew

This painting of a maple leaf covered in droplets of dew is based on a picture I took directly outside of the door of a busy daycare. Not only was I amazed that it survived the foot traffic, but I spotted it at exactly the time I'd finished my last painting, and was looking for my next subject.

I posted a version of this same painting a while back without the background, as I wasn't quite sure if the cobblestones would work. I'm happy to say that they definitely worked, and I'm very happy with the results.

It might interest you to know that the background cobble stones are based on a photograph I took of a wall tile in a fast food restaurant in Vaughn Ontario. There is a wall there covered in 12 inch square tiles with small, smooth stones embedded in clear plastic. When I saw it, I immediately thought it would make an ideal background for a painting. It would be another month before I found the ideal subject sitting on the ground outside a daycare in Peterborough.
